Chess in Schools and Communities
We partner with Chess in Schools and Communities as we value the learning of this game in supporting children’s mathematical, problem solving and strategic thinking. We are delighted that through the organisation we welcome a highly qualified and experienced chess coach who teaches children across Year 3 as part of their weekly curriculum. He also leads our thriving lunchtime Chess Club each week for children across the age range. For the past two years New North Academy pupils have participated in the annual London Chess Classic, a festival that brings together hundreds of primary school children to play chess with professionals. The opportunity to play chess against other schools in big competitions is a unique opportunity that we are confident is another way we teach individuals how to win and lose gracefully, think ahead and foresee the consequences of their actions. All of these are skills that are essential in the ‘real’ world and necessary to be great future employers and employees.
